If you’ve been diagnosed with high levels of LDL (“bad”) cholesterol, you may be wondering how to lower cholesterol quickly. Here are some great pointers to get you well on your way, without using medication.
- First and foremost, eat a healthy diet! Include plenty of fresh veggies and fruits, nuts, wild-caught (avoid farmed) fish. Avoid grain-fed meat; if you eat meat, try to choose organic, and fully pastured (100 percent grass fed) beef and lamb.
- Get a little tart! Try apple cider vinegar. Adding this tangy liquid, with its complex sweet and sour taste, to tea, will help to lower cholesterol quickly, flushing it from the body. Many people have made significant reductions in their cholesterol levels by including apple cider vinegar. Quick tip: Mix it with olive oil (also amazing for the heart), some pepper, sea salt and herbs for a fast, tasty and healthy dressing.
- Try supplementing with Omega-3 essential fatty acids and red yeast rice. Taking them together on a regular basis was shown to be as effective as the cholesterol lowering drug, Crestor – without the side effects. Conducted at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions in New Orleans, the study demonstrated that anyone could benefit from this supplement combination.
- Move it or lose it! Regular exercise does a lot more than build muscle, tone the body, improve mood, endurance and self confidence; it stimulates the release of enzymes which actually remove “bad” (LDL) cholesterol from the blood. By exercising, this enzymatic reaction sends the LDL cholesterol to the liver, from where it is excreted – and the more you move, the more LDL cholesterol gets removed from your blood! Vigorous exercise that gets the heart rate up is more effective at stimulating this action. Try to exercise for half an hour a day to lower cholesterol quickly.
